He's not sure how they ended out there in the cold.

Heading out after school, realizing he didn't have any theatre stuff today and no shift at Phoenix Records, Richie found himself with an afternoon free. Usually, he'd spend a few hours at the arcade or studying with Regan, or bugging Stan until he told him to fuck off so he could study, but in the crowd of bodies and coats headed toward the doors, Richie'd spotted Bev.


It's been a while since they hung out, just the two of them, and it seems like a good idea today.

Plus, Richie could really use a cigarette.

Seated at the top of the bleachers next to Bev, Richie's butt hurts on the cold metal seat, but he doesn't mind much.

"Did I tell you they want me to do the announcements?" he asks, passing the cigarette back to Bev.

It's a little cold to be sitting outside, probably. Beverly doesn't really care that much, though, just figures it's a good thing she dressed warmly today. Hanging out after school with Richie hadn't exactly been in her plans, but it has been too long since they hung out without any of the others around. Having a chance to do so now is nice, and while she doesn't really care that much, she would rather avoid getting in trouble for smoking inside, so the bleachers it is. At home, she's supposedly trying to quit, but really, she mostly just considers that a lost cause. With that being the case, she might as well own it.

"Wait, did they really?" she asks with a crooked smile, taking the cigarette back from Richie. "That's awesome." Her expression turning just a little teasing, she adds, "You sure you can keep 'em clean enough?"

"I can be fuckin' clean," Richie says, and manages to keep a straight face while he says it, breaking into a wide grin just a moment later.

Richie's surprised though, that there's no one he knows who went directly to the principal to tell the guy about his reputation. If he knew, he definitely wouldn't have agreed to any of this.

"Bullshit," Beverly retorts with a laugh, shaking her head at him, the word choice deliberate. Really, she thinks Richie probably can manage it. She doubts it will be easy, and she won't be surprised if he slips up at least once or still manages to say something that gets them to reconsider having him do the announcements, but at least in the meantime, they'll definitely be entertaining.

"Decided which Voice you're going to use first?" she asks. "Or are you gonna wait and add those later?"

"I might ease everybody in," Richie says, though he's not sure if he means it, because he immediately dives into a Voice, "Proper introductions must be made, you see! Wot wot and all that rot!"

He grins, and makes a motion for Bev to hand the cigarette over again.

"Oh, of course," Beverly says, a bright grin spreading across her face as she passes back the cigarette. "Might be fun to take everyone by surprise, anyway." She's not sure anyone who actually knows Richie would be the least bit surprised, but there are still plenty of people who would. It'll be hilarious regardless, though. That much, she's sure of.

"I still can't believe no one realized what they were getting themselves into, asking you to do it."

"Or perhaps zey knew all along, mon ami," Richie replies, dipping into a Voice, a French guy he's just started working on. It's more Pepe LePew than anything else right now. He takes an exaggerated drag from the cigarette, trying and failing to blow a smoke ring after.

"It would have been pretty cool if that worked," he says.

"It would've been awesome if that worked," Beverly agrees, letting out a quick little laugh at his exaggerated French accent. "Come on, try it again, maybe you'll get it."

Now that she thinks of it, she's pretty sure they aren't supposed to be smoking on school property, and she's definitely sure she doesn't care. This is hardly the first time, and it won't be the last, either.
